PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATION

Another form of support to suppliers is the facilitation of access to credit and to professional qualification in marketing of products. Highlights in this area are the actions of the Soy Complex, which segregated the price of the commodity into five components (Chicago, Chicago premium, Freight to the port, Additional shipping costs, and Dollar) that have different fluctuations. This enables farmers to choose the most convenient time to index part of the price. In some regions, the company also offers the possibility of fixing the price based on an average closing of several days, so that farmers are less exposed to fluctuations. There is also the option of fixing a minimum price to be paid by Cargill, considering the value of a certain day, with a contractual option to receive one more installment if the market value of soybeans fluctuates positively.

The company invests in the reformulation and expansion of its customer service teams, in order to increase its relationship with the farmers because of the Country’s regional diversity. The Business Unit also grants the Supplier of the Year Award.

Furthermore, Cargill sponsors the production of cocoa in the states of Bahia and Pará, in order to try to improve and expand the national harvest. The company’s risk management team utilizes financial tools to minimize the risks of cocoa farmers due to the volatility of the New York Board of Trade (NYBOT).
