Cargill invested R$ 2.5 million in training and qualification for 5,787 employees in 2009, 56% down on 2008 due to the readjustment of activities for expenditure reduction.

The company, however, continued to innovate and launched, in partnership with the Institute for Teaching and Research – Insper, a special program for specific leadership training with a view to giving them a broader and more strategic business vision. Classes began in April, covering topics such as Financial Strategy and Agribusiness Results and Trends, and included group-dynamic games between different business areas and business games.

Also worthy of note is High Performance Management, corporate training for supervisors and managers with at least two years’ experience in managing people with a need to improve skills in the areas of self-awareness, coaching, developing other employees, engagement, etc. By the end of 2009, the program delivered training to four groups of professionals participating in activities phased throughout the entire year.

Cargill also continued its program to award scholarships, which benefited 274 employees in 2009, 44% down on 2008. It provided grants for undergraduate and postgraduate courses, with investments of R$ 729,800 (a decrease of 51% in comparison to the previous period).
