COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

The company sets its wage policy standards based on surveys and market research. In addition to fixed income, it allows for variable remuneration, which in 2009 distributed about R$ 40 million, resulting in an average of 1.9 extra wages paid to employees who attained the expected results.

Employees also have access to CargillPrev, a pension plan with defined contribution under whose infrastructure the company participates in 100% of the contributions of every employee. In 2009, CargillPrev, in which 1,741 employees participate, received investment of R$ 11.9 million from Cargill. The plan’s equity already totals more than R$ 485 million.

Also mindful of its employees’ futures, the company maintains the Post-Career program directed at those who occupy management positions and are about to retire. Created in 2001, it brought together 13 people in 2009 for lectures on topics such as household budget and health, taught by expert consultants, with investment of R$ 73,000. Cargill organizes tributes for employees who complete 10, 20, 25, 30, 35, and 40 years in its service. During the year, 250 people were awarded this honor.

Another benefit is access to Cooperative Credit. There are 3,230 contributors, who, in 2009, played an even more relevant role, because of the retraction of credit offers in Brazil early in the year. At the end of 2009, the segment recorded loans of R$ 9.7 million.

Employees also receive benefits such as medical insurance and dental care, both with broad coverage, a program for chronic disease management and monitoring of special cases, group life insurance and the option to contract additional insurance, restaurants (at some units) or food vouchers, commuter voucher or chartered buses, school kits for elementary schoolchildren (2,725 children), Christmas baskets or basket vouchers, and toys for children up to 12 years old (9,523 people benefited).
